Become A Digital Nomad And Start Traveling The World In As Little As 90 Days!
Dear aspiring digital nomad…
I don’t think I’ve shared this story publicly before, but here goes…
Passport? Check.
Electronic boarding pass? Check.
It was 6 am on a Tuesday.
I hadn’t had my first coffee of the day, so I wasn’t quite a functioning human yet.
I rode the elevator from my 17th floor hotel room to the lobby where my taxi was waiting.
I got in and told the driver to stop at Starbucks on our way to Singapore’s Changi airport.
I was heading to Bali.
Me and two friends had rented a villa in Seminyak for the entire month.
The place had everything. Tropical backdrops, housekeeping twice a week, a pool, and plenty of beaches and cafes at our doorstep.
We planned to bask in the sun, eat delicious Balinese food, catch sunsets, and island hop while working remotely from our tropical villa.
Truth be told, I got a bit emotional on the plane over recalling what my life was like just a few years before.
Rewind to 2014…
I was stuck in a job I hated, depressed, angry, unhealthy, and losing a little piece of my spark with each passing day.
I wanted more for myself, and I was feeling the call to make a change, but I just couldn’t take the leap.
I was SCARED…
Scared of being financially vulnerable in a foreign country.
Scared of leaving my friends and family to be all alone in the world with no support network.
Scared of not being able to make it work and having to return home and face my friends and family knowing I had failed.
Scared of having to come crawling back to the job I hated so much.
I had so much going through my head but most of all I was scared of going all in only to FAIL miserably.
Eventually, the fear of regret became more uncomfortable than the fear of failure.
So, at the end of 2014, I sold everything I owned, quit my job, and got on a plane to Costa Rica.
I had $4371 in my account, no income, no real skills, and no solid plan.
I would spend the winter in Costa Rica trying to transition to a digital career that would allow me to earn a steady, full-time income online so that I could turn my travel hobby into a permanent lifestyle.
Best case I’d figure it out. Worst case I’d spend the bitter Canadian winter on a beach.
Spoiler alert…
I did figure it out, and I’ve been traveling ever since.
But it didn’t turn out how I expected.
It turned out better!
Because somewhere on my quest for unlimited travel adventures, I found myself again, and I don’t feel like my spark is dying anymore.
It’s brighter than ever.
And I can truthfully say that I’m living my dream life.
But I do have one regret…
It’s that I didn’t take the leap sooner.
So when you hear the call to do something, trust yourself.
Do it.
